La Petite Mort – A PUPPET SHOW

Die Puppe darf Dinge sagen, für die wir uns selbst oft schämen. Die Puppe wird zu etwas. Wir geben ihr eine Stimme, eine Körperlichkeit. Es aktiviert unsere Sehnsucht etwas zu werden, das wir immer werden wollten.

Dieses Puppenspiel ist ein Versuch das jugendliche Denken in Bezug auf Queerness, Identität und Sexualität mit Hilfe von Puppen zu aktivieren. Ihnen die Möglichkeit geben, sich mit einer Puppe zu identifizieren, die andere körperliche Eigenschaften aufweisen. Körper, die poetisch sind.

Im Anschluss an das Puppenspiel gibt es ein Nachtessen, um die Sinne der jungen Zuschauer:innen zu aktivieren und sie auch durch das Essen an die Materie und den Diskurs heranzuführen. Die Dramaturgie des Essen kann mit jener des Geschlechtsakts gut erläutert werden, so können wir auf spielerische Weise bei der Vorspeise über das Vorspiel reden, beim Hauptgang über Sex und beim Nachtisch über das Nachspiel.

A puppet can say things that we might find embarrassing. Puppets are objects of transformation. We lend them our voice, a body in motion. Puppets wake our desire to become something that we have always wanted to be.

Our theatre piece is the attempt to open the minds of our young audience towards queerness, identity, sexuality with the aid of puppet play. We offer the opportunity to identify with puppets whose bodies differ from those of the spectators. Poetic bodies. 

Following the puppet play, we will arrange dinner for the audience, activating their senses and allowing them to enter the topics and discourse at hand through food. The dramaturgy of eating can serve as an opening for a discussion of sex, introducing foreplay with the starter course, touching on sexual acts during the main course, and celebrating afterplay with dessert.

About
Nils Amadeus Lange (1989, Cologne) works as an artist, performer and lecturer in Zurich. After studying theatre at the Bern University of the Arts he expanded his practice to various media, keeping a focus on dance and performance, developing numerous international projects. At the centre of his practice is the body, which functions as a means of deconstructing social conventions and gender stereotypes. 

For the past six years he has been teaching, developing curricula in various universities, within departments varying between fashion, acting, fine arts, photography and performance; implementing alternative forms of learning and experimental approaches.

His works have been shown at various institutions such as Kunsthalle Basel, Kunsthalle Zürich, Manifesta Zürich, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art Warsaw, Istituto Svizzero Rome, Belvedere 21 Vienna, Centre d‘Art Contemporain Genève, Swiss Dance Days, Zürich moves!, Gessnerallee, Frascati Amsterdam, ZÜRICH TANZT, Berliner Festspiele, Kunsthalle Bern, Les Urbaines Lausanne, Südpol Luzern, Tanzhaus Zürich und CounterPulse San Francisco, Cabaret Voltaire Zürich.

Sage Crump - SPACE CAMP
Workshop

Emergent Strategy ist eine handfeste Philosophie und eine echte Möglichkeit, die Kraft der Veränderung zum Tragen zu bringen. Es geht darin um Praktiken, Antworten, Visionen und Pläne, die Komplexität, Interdependenzen und Transformationen zulassen und fördern. In dem zweistündigen Workshop, angelegt von Sage Crump, werden die Grundlagen von Emergent Strategy nach Adrienne Maree Brown vermittelt und darüber nachgedacht, wie diese Strategien innerhalb des Kultursektors zur Anwendung kommen können. 

Sage Crump ist eine kulturelle Strategin, die in New Orleans lebt und in den Vereinigten Staaten im Einsatz ist. Sie steht in engem Austausch mit Künstler*innen, Kulturarbeiter*innen und Kunstorganisationen, deren Wirken in Einrichtungen für soziale Gerechtigkeit zum Tragen kommen kann; besonders versiert ist sie darin, Kunstschaffen und kreative Praxis als Instrument auszurichten, mit dem eine Transformation systemischer Unterdrückung möglich wird. Zu ihren Skills gehören Programmmanagement, strategische Planung, Vermittlung, Design von Residenzen, Ausarbeitung von Lehrplänen, die Formulierung von Change Theorien und ein Neudenken von Tour Management mit Blick auf ein regionales Veränderungspotential. Sages Arbeit mit Kunstschaffenden, etwa Complex Movements in Detroit, gibt ein Beispiel dafür, wie ein Kulturschaffen neue Strategien erzeugt, in denen sich Kunstpraxis, Organisationsarbeit und soziopolitisches Engagement vereinen. Sie ist die Leiterin von LANE, Leveraging A Network for Equity im National Performance Network / Visual Arts Network. Seit acht Jahren setzt sich LANE für die Anerkennung der Vorrangstellung von künstlerischen Zsuammenschlüssen von PoC ein, mit Blick auf ihren Marktwert. Sage ist Mitglied des National Advisory Committee of Women of Color in the Arts, im Vorstand des Center for Media Justice und von Alternate ROOTS, und stellvertretende Vorsitzende im Vorstand von Art2Action.  

Emergent strategy is a humble philosophy and a way to acknowledge the real power of change. It speaks to practices, responses, visions and plans that embrace complexity interdependence and transformation. In a two hour workshop facilitated by Sage Crump, participants will learn the foundations of Emergent Strategy, as written in Adrienne Maree Brown’s book, and will learn how to apply these strategies specifically to work within the cultural sector.

Sage Crump is a cultural strategist based in New Orleans and working nationally. Sage works in deep collaboration with artists, cultural workers and arts organizations to integrate their work into the field of social justice organizing; she is skilled at leveraging art and creative practice for the cultural transformation of systemic oppressions. Her skills include program management, strategic planning, facilitation, residency design, curriculum development, articulating theories of change and reimagining touring structures that support local change-making. Sage’s work with artists, such as Detroit-based Complex Movements, highlights how cultural production supports new strategies that intersect artistic practice, organizing and movement building. She also manages Leveraging A Network for Equity (LANE) for the National Performance Network/Visual Arts Network. LANE is an eight-year initiative that recognizes arts organizations of color as leaders in the field, through the lens of capitalization. Sage serves on the National Advisory Committee of Women of Color in the Arts, the board of the Center for Media Justice, the board of Alternate ROOTS, and is board vice-chair for Art2Action.

Stand Up-Comedian und Performance Künstler Edwin Ramirez lädt Spoken Word Poetin, Moderatorin und Kolumnistin Fatima Moumouni zu einem öffentlichen Gespräch und Austausch ein. Wie passiert es eigentlich, dass man als kunstschaffende Person immer wieder in den Aktivismus rutscht? Wie gelingt einem, Kunst und Aktivismus zu vereinen, ohne sich dabei völlig aufzureiben? Die beiden unterhalten sich darüber, wie intersektionale Approaches zu sozialer Gerechtigkeit immer wieder auch Tokenismus produzieren und wie Mensch als tokenisierte Person dabei den Humor nicht verliert. Darüber, wie wir miteinander umgehen, wenn persönlicher Beef entsteht. Wie wir unsere Batterien wieder aufladen und wie wir Community schaffen.

Stand up-comedian and performance artist Edwin Ramirez invites spoken word poet, presenter and columnist Fatima Moumouni for a conversation and an exchange of ideas before audience. Why do artists tend to slip into activism again and again? How can we unite art and activism without running headlong into burnout? Both interlocutors are interested in how intersectional moves towards social justice reliably tend to produce tokenisms, and how not to lose your humor as said token person. How do we work together in the case of a personal grudge? How can we reload our batteries, how can community be realized?

About
Edwin Ramirez (no pronoun) is a performance artist and stand-up comedian from Zürich. Since summer 2015 Edwin has appeared on all larger comedy stages in German-language Switzerland and on Swiss television. Since 2020 and together with Nina Mühlemann, Edwin is a director of Criptonite, a queer crip performance project at Gessnerallee Zürich. Criptonite is part of the Freischwimmen Netzwerk 2020-2021. Edwin has appeared on stage at Neumarkt Theater with «Star Magnolia» and «Monster vs. Society» in the series #bigdreams, as well as with Neue Dringlichkeit at Gessnerallee in «Hier! Tickets für die Revolution».

Fatima Moumouni is a spoken word poet, presenter, columnist and the first Black Bundeskanzler of Switzerland. At Gessnerallee Zürich, Moumouni hosts her recurring panel «Die Neue Unsicherheit. Disco Edition», urging the merits of more insecurity on stage. Together with Uğur Gültekin, she is the presenter of the first Swiss postmigrant Late Night Show within the context of DIASBOAH, the platform with migrant advantage. She co-authored the play BULLESTRESS with Laurin Buser, which opened at Schauspielhaus Zürich. Both writers were awarded the Salzburger Stier 2021

Das live Soundexperiment von Slim Soledad arbeitet mit persönlichen Texten, aber auch mit grundsätzlichen Fragen und radikalen Vorschlägen. Sie trägt viele Wunden in sich und sehnt sich nach einer Neudeutung gesellschaftlich vorgegebener Zuweisungen. Sich den eigenen Schwächen in der Form einer Show aussetzen, ist das gesund? Und dann dieses Weiße, das sich auf sadistische Weise darüber hermacht? Slim befasst sich in ihrem Unterfangen mit einem eingegrenzten Feld, mit Macht und Kontrolle, aber auch mit Verletzungen, Verlust und den Bruchstücken, die zurückbleiben. Delirium und Wiederholung. Imitation und Flucht. Der Raum, der etwas wegnimmt, der woanders hinführt, ist auch ein Ort von Begegnung und Heilung. Hier treffen Musik und Performance als Instrument zur Komposition eines Prozesses aufeinander, mit lyrisch gemischten Erzählungen auf Portugiesisch und Englisch.

The process it’s a live sound experiment by Slim Soledad and Alada with Musa Mattiuzzi direction with personal texts but at the same time packed with some questions and personal radical thoughts. The ritualistic process of sound and movement made by the artists in the stage creates this hypnosis of healing, once you are vibrating with the frequencies of the music there’s no way back. The creation of the process went through changes and everything started with just a few beats and body performance and became a more musical and healing process. Since they believes that by diving into the performance process, they ended up cutting many wounds. Together they articulates and explores a certain domain, power and management, but also damage, loss and consequently ruins. Delirium and repetition. Imitation and escape. Translated through sound, performance, art direction and raciness. The visual atmosphere materializes the intimacy of some thoughts and memories combining the meeting of music and installation. The space that takes away and takes to another place is also an encounter and a healing, in which music and performance meet one another as a tool to compose the process, mixing poetic narratives in Portuguese/English.

About
Slim Soledad is an Artist from Sao Paulo, based in Berlin. Her body moves through the different sounds inter-passing rhythms like Baile Funk, Vogue and contemporary dances. These connections develop nuances in her body's creative process as a performer and in her musical production.

Alada is a brazilian dj & music producer, and part of his evolution and purpose, as an artist and character, brings a new vision for those who are understood as «music», «art» and «genre». Always with a paradigmatic break approach, his work is high in emotion and sexuality.

muSa is an undisciplined artist whose research and practice unfold in works that transit through different means of expression, from performance to writing, from photography to films. Colonial violence is a constant theme of muSa’s poetic investigation and her works appropriate and subvert the exotic place attributed to Black women's bodies by the white-cis-normative imagery narratives, which transform her image into some sort of aberration, an entity split between the wonderful and the abject.

Jede Generation wird durch die Geschichte ihrer Zeit geprägt, durch unterschiedliche Haltungen, Stile und Bedingungen. Nach Gen-Z und mit Einführung der Cyberwelten ist die Welt eine andere geworden. Die Realität ist virtuell, eine Entwicklung, die kontinuierlich voranschreitet. Silikon, Motherboards, 3D, Elektromusik und Netzwerk-Verbindungen sind Faktoren in einer neuen Schöpfungsgeschichte des Hyper-Menschen, Generation K, im Untergrund aufgezogen, Entitäten-Avatare.

Die Performance zeichnet die radikalen Veränderungen nach, die mit Ankunft von Internet eingetreten sind, und denunziert die negativen Einflüsse von Fake News, Sozialen Medien und toxischen ästhetischen Normen; blickt aber auch auf eine neue Offenheit im Denken 3.0, die sich äußert im Individualverständnis von Fluids, Queers und Weird.Beings. Generation K setzt sich zusammen aus Anarchisten, Grüblern, Liebhabern von Avant Garde und alternativen Elektro-Sounds, mit einem Seitenblick auf Subkulturen, die aus Partyräumen zwischen Clubs, Raves, rituellen Feiern und Geschichten aus dem Metaverse hervorgegangen sind. Eine faszinierende Dimension, durchzogen von transversalen Dynamiken, die die Vor- und Nachteile einer neuen Entwicklung zwischen der ersten Pandemie und ihren Folgeerscheinungen beleuchten, und mit der eine digitale Realität als Safe Space erschaffen werden soll.

Each generation has been influenced by its own historical period, through different attitudes, styles and conditions. After the Gen - Z where the cyberworld was introduced, everything changed. Reality is no langer the same as ever, it has become virtual, but the evolution has continued constant. Between silicon, motherboards, 3D, electronic music and network connections, the new genesis of Hyper Humans is born, Generation K, raised underground, entity avatars.

The performance shows the radical changes that have occurred with the advent of the internet, denounces the negative influences of the fake news system, social media and toxic aesthetic standards. But also open-mindedness and the information increase of minds 3.0 marking individuality as: fluids, queers and weird beings. Generation ALPHA includes anarchists, thinkers, lovers of the avant-garde and alternative electric sounds, with particular focus on the subcultures that grew up in the parties between clubs, raves, ritual celebrations and stories in the metaverse. Fascinating dimension made up of transversal dynamics, which high light the pros and cons of the development that took place between the first and post-pandemic, wanting to build the digital reality as a safe space.

About
ANKKH is an italien duo, DJ & performers composed by Kristofer and Ektor based in Milan, Italy, performance and visual art. They performed in the best Italian clubs. From a strong artistic identity inspired by different subcultures such as cyberpunk and hyper pop, they combine their art with sound and transformation. They play techno with various coontaminations, espacially those ralated to the Queer culture of which they are part. ANKKH live show is an experience of electronic sounds and performative moments creating an underground surreal atmosphere. Their art is an expression between the digital and the spiritual dimension.

«Basically» ist ein zeitlich offenes Live-Projekt mit nicht-linearen Choreographien, die sich portalartig rekursiv einklappen, mit quasi-polyphonen, kontrapunktischen Gitarrenmelodien, Vocals und Ableton Soundscapes, mit täglichen I-Ging Würfen zur Verortung in einem unablässig sich verändernden Universum, mit Tagebucheinträgen als Vorlage für das Textbuch, mit Tempellesungen und offenen Phasen, die Raum lassen für das, was der Zufall beiträgt. Besucherinnen und Besucher sind eingeladen, dieser wandelbaren Konstellation beizutreten; die Studiotüren stehen häufig offen. Sie werden eingebunden in die Erschaffung und Wiederherstellung der Umgebung, eine Sozietät der Differenzen. 

Die Struktur von Basically ist ein choreographisches Game mit interaktiven und spielerischen Regeln, die Raum lassen für die Ausarbeitung von Beziehungen. Tanzchoreographien erwachsen aus einer Grundstruktur, kreisen um sich selbst in wechselnden, unbestimmten Mustern, ausgerichtet auf eine elektromagnetische Kraft, die sich in einem unbeständigen Orbit wiederfinden.

«Basically» is an ongoing live project that includes nonlinear dance choreographies that fold in on themselves like portals through time, fugue-like contrapuntal guitar melodies, vocals and Ableton soundscapes, daily I Ching castings that locate us in a shifty universe, journal entries that become our textbook, shrine readings and unscheduled time that leaves room for contingency. Visitors are invited into this shifting constellation as the doors to the studio are often left open. They become involved in making and remaking the environment; a sociality of difference

The structure of «Basically» is a choreographic game with interactive and playful rules that allow for relations to develop. Dance choreographies branch from this basic structure, they revolve around themselves in varying undetermined patterns reliant on an electro-magnetic force that settles into a perpetual but shifting orbit.

About
Nikima Jagudajev (1990) is a choreographer based in New York and Brussels. Their work, expanding formal dance into the construction of open-ended socialities has been presented in venues including Shedhalle, Kurimanzutto (Mexico City), Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, The Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1 and Rockbund Art Museum (Shanghai) as well as in the context of Material Art Fair’s Immaterial (Mexico City), 89+ at LUMA/Westbau (Zürich) and as part of the Marrakech Biennale (Morocco). Their first solo exhibition “Basically” took place in spring 2021 at Bergen Kunsthall (Norway). Published work includes ‘The Backstreet Boys’ as part of Bergen Kunsthall’s Speculative Histories text commission platform (2021), ‘Relations of Unpredictable Encounters’ in the Movement Research Performance Journal (2017) and ‘the landscape thinks itself in me’ in Asad Raza’s Root Sequence. Mother Tongue (Walther König, 2018).
